DC8488
I didn't see a good thread to post share-worthy news articles, so I created one. If you come across anything worth sharing drop it in. Awesome story of an Apache crew's response to an autorotation in combat. http://www.army.mil/..._pilots__lives/
Hellfire
Landing without the tail rotor is not an easy task. ...and they walked away, good job!
Velocity173
Another great story is the Apache in Afghanistan that lost the tail rotor and the pilot (Arizona Guard) flew it all the way to Salerno and did a roll-on. Great vid if you guys get a chance to watch it at Rucker. It used to be on the old Aircrew Coordination Training program.
electron_si
They showed that video and the ICS commo from the time it was lost until after touchdown. The LT that was with him went into panic mode and he saved her life. That guy was talking over ICS and making radio calls like it was just another traffic pattern. What a great story for army aviation. that was part of my act-e class at rucker

DC8488
Hellfire, this article made me think of you, bud. AH-64E Apache Guardian: http://www.army.mil/...che_Echo_Model/ Anybody know specifically what upgrades were incorporated into the Echo model? This article was vague to say the least. Best I could find was here:http://www.flightglo...-ah-64e-378043/

Best I could find was here:http://www.flightglo...-ah-64e-378043/ haha thats wonderful, "Guardian" fits pretty well. The upgrades are pretty much what you found on the second article... im sure there are a couple of surpises, can't wait to find out haha

GraphiteBlur
Keeping in mind that I have not been through school yet, I think that was the most I've learned about an airframe in a single sitting. Awesome video, and surprisingly easy to follow along.

akscott60
Guardian? Really? Ralph.
Velocity173
I don't understand why they felt the need to rename it because of a few design changes. The UH-60M is far more different than a L and it's still a Black Hawk. Hopefully with the more HP and lighter airframe they won't have to tell the 60 guys to slow down during escorts anymore.
Hellfire
well "Guardian" sounds much more appealing to the general public than "Harbinger of death and destruction" which is (what I wish it was) the real name... and it seems to bring more than a "few" changes, that are not just design. Also, it seems a bit of a waste to have an Apache as an aircraft escort.. thats what the 58's for haha
Velocity173
Should've stuck with Indian names. Hopi would be nice.

01CelicaGTS
It's not like they're changing the name of the actual helicopter. It's still an Apache. The new one is just going to be the Guardian instead of the former Longbow. Edited January 23, 2013 by 01CelicaGTS
