Easy for you to say your speechless...

This is going to hurt everyone at some point in their career. My whole guard battalion is facing elimination. Got a LTC brief today at drill who is not only our batt co but also the SAO... I might be changing to 60s as my selection to avoid this whole headache

Here some supporting docs.

"Posted on InsideDefense.com: January 10, 2014 Air Army. Big news, just posted: Defense Secretary Gives Go-Ahead To Army's Planned Aviation Restructure Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has approved an Army plan to restructure its aviation forces that includes divesting all OH-58 Kiowa Warrior helicopters and taking all AH-64 Apache helicopters out of the National Guard to fill the active component's armed aerial scout mission requirement, according to a defense official. The official said the defense secretary has adopted the Army's plan in the form it was briefed on Capitol Hill, to key industry players and to Inside the Army last month. The approval of the aviation restructure was driven by internal Pentagon guidance given to the Army earlier this week. A resource management decision that will further detail the implementation of the plan, which will inform the fiscal year 2015 budget request, has yet to be distributed. Orders from the Army staff to move the plan forward are expected in March or April, the official added. Another defense official confirmed the plan has leadership support, but noted the budget is only considered final when the President releases it."

Just got back from a pre-selection brief from the battalion SMO.

They have upped the 58 class size from 6 to 8, so there are slots to be had.. if you're lucky enough to be selecting in the next few weeks. The final class begins on 14 April.

Lucky enough? For what? Are the guys going right into the Apache AQT after graduation? Or are they going to be one of a few hundred unemployed Kiowa drivers trying to get a transition?

Stop building a CAB at Carson. Move the 159 from Campbell to Carson.

There. One is taken care of.

Aside from 58s, anyone else think I should choose 60s now instead of 64s like I want being that I'm guard? What are the chances you think of us loosing apaches?

Well just from reading the article it doesn't look good for guard and the 64's. 60's seem like a relatively good choice simply due to how many of them there are and I don't think it's very likely the Army can get rid of them anytime soon.

Ah but it does say Arizona is a acquiring more lakotas... Probably going to WAATS with the other 5 we already have down here. It mentioned that PA is the third largest apache fleet in the guard... Anyone know number two or one by chance?
