If youre saying RA is regular army, this doesnt make any sense. Every list has at least 60 selected for 153A

The board still convenes today. Those are civilian results. Be patient until we receive the MILPER on HRC or the inside scoop from someone. I believe the earliest we find out is monday. Results should be posted wednesday or thursday.

Story-time about how my packet was almost botched by USAREC:

So last Thursday I had a bad feeling that my updates for my second look weren't processed properly. My recruiter said everything was fine, but even so I managed to find a number to call G-3 directly. (On a side note: I don't suggest calling the board level directly. They will give you lots of grief. I'm not going to give the phone number to anyone.) They told me that NONE of my updates were received.

I had raised my PT score from 243 to 286, spend $1500 on flight time, revised my essay, got several new LORs, new photo, added a resume, etc.

After yelling at me for calling them, they told me they were glad I called. If I hadn't went out of my way to check my packet, I likely wouldn't have been selected.

The reason it was botched was basically because of miscommunication between my recruiting station and Battalion. Battalion Ops called me directly to apologize. They said that the experience will be used in future trainings to avoid the same issue. (There is a more complicated explanation than "miscommunication" but it would take forever to elaborate)

TLDR: You have more control over the packet than you think. If something doesn't feel right, follow the chain of command and make sure. Don't just trust your recruiter blindly.

That book definitely reads more like a mantra with how repetitive it is... or maybe that's just me. Interesting story about his trials and known/unknown shortcomings. Callousing the mind, growing by doing the uncomfortable, that kinda thing. Similar to Jocko Willink's Discipline Equals Freedom idea.

Can't hurt me by David Goggins. Goes deep into self-reflection. Something that has kept my mind busy while waiting on the results. Great book thus far.

Good books to try to stay motivated while working out if alone.

Anyway 20 out of 61, wow. 32.78% selected. Come on, needs of the Army! Increase!

There's no way the pilot shortage is fixed. It was 700+ in 2017.

Wasn't the pilot shortage due to poor retention of CW3/4's and not so much a shortage of new pilots coming in?

I know the Air Force has a pilot shortage, but they don't have a problem filling slots for flight school.

Pilots don’t want to stay in because the Army treats us like sh*t generally. A lot of guys have been declining promotion to W3 and getting out as soon as their six year ADSO is up. The Army thinks they can fix that with an eight year ADSO to force pilots to stay in longer rather than fixing the underlying problems that’s makes them get out in the first place.

There is also the practical limit of how many new pilots can be trained each year at Rucker that limits selection rates.

I'm a big believer in that if the work environment and leadership is encouraging and good, people will stay. No one wants to be taken advantage of or treated badly when it's not necessary. Military has it's mission and how it needs to be carried out, of course, but trying to help out your guys is a good thing, when possible.

Yeah I was surprised to see the selection rate go down. However, I've been told by a retired CWOB that the Army has almost finished dealing with the current pilot shortage.

Maybe in overall numbers but not in actually operational numbers. My company is short four pilots and only has enough pilots in command to put half of our aircraft in the air. No company in my BN can actually launch all their aircraft due to insufficient pilots in seats and PCs.

It's because of both. While poor retention is the main reason, inability to fill slots also aggravates the problem. In this sense, "shortage of pilots coming in" refers to the Army's inability absorb new trainees.

The drop in selection rates doesn't necessarily mean the shortage was resolved. It just means that is the number the Army can afford to train at this moment. It's likely the Army doesn't have the budget nor the manpower to train replacements at a fast enough rate.

This is some sound advice, I fell into that mindset and am paying for it with another board. My waiver which I thought got done months ago never got proceed so I missed out. I was told on multiple occasions it was 100%. I will be a little more assertive this time.

Right. I would see about talking to your Battalion Operations. There should be an individual there that specializes in Special Missions. Talk to them, they have direct contact to the board.

Just don't do what I did and call the board directly.

We all have the same dates. There are four of us, but two of us, including me, are going to Jackson for BCT.
