Lindsey Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 What determines if one goes through that cold weather survival training? Is that also taught at Rucker if it is during the winter? What cold weather survival training? Quote
Yamer Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Are you talking about the Spec ops stuff? Quote
brackac Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 If there is one thing I can tell you not to do at SERE, its this. Dont go home. Someone pulled that little stunt in the most recent class. 2015 SERE Gold Medal Winner. Making it home without being tortured is pretty much the #1 goal of SERE. 1 Quote

cofranc Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 SERE - I had loads of fun in SERE when I went through; we also received cold weather survival training (CWEST) since it was the middle of January in Brunswick, ME. Imagine primitive back country camping mixed with a really angry drill instructor...haha! What cold weather survival training?Check the above quote. Quote
Lindsey Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Ah. He must have went through either a different service's SERE or done it "back in the day." You'll go through SERE at Rucker. Winter and summer each have their own "suck." 1 Quote

Creep0321 Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Yea, winter SERE in Maine was no fun. (USN, and some USMC) did that back in 2008. They gave me the option of doing it again here at Rucker, no thanks. 2 Quote

And I estimate that you'll sit in training bubbles for months and end up going in the Spring. Or maybe Winter. Probably Summer. 2 Quote
Cantankerously Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 They were making anyone who did not complete a full spectrum level C SERE course retake the course. We had Navy and Marine guys that had been to their version but had to go back. Quote

ajm872000 Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Just a few questions, hopefully someone is still monitoring this thread. Someone previously mentioned that the dunker was no longer a requirement. Is that true? or just standard rumor mill stuff. Is there a better time of the year to go through SERE-C. I.e. if you're spending all your time outside, the summer seems like a better time to do it than the winter but then again you probably have no choice in terms of when you go. How long is SERE-C? and do you ever have to retake SERE-C or the dunker or are those one-time requirements? Quote

SERE is a one time thing and during the summer is NOT the time you want to go. You wont have a choice about when you go. Quote
