January/March Board

Recommended Posts

The message is talking about applicants for 255A and 255N being too low.

Yep I see that, wasn't aware if that meant the deadline for JUST those MOS was extended or if they just extended the deadline all together. It doesn't say specifically.

Besides shooting for 300 on my PFT, what else could/should I be doing to strengthen my application against all you prior service guys?

Oh, and what should I expect for the flight physical? I know it is much more in depth regarding my vision but besides that I assume its all the same blood draw/urinalysis/check for hernias procedure from the first physical?

ggruessing,

Besides the APFT you can't really strengthen much after the testing is over and you have your LOR's. Think you're all set.

With the flight physical it's a bunch of back and forth to different departments. Make sure you don't eat anything 12 hours prior and DRINK ALOT. If you don't protein may be present in you urine and will make the process in even more in depth. Other than that it's the basic physical. Then body measurements.

I have a question, since you're another civilian. Do you know if we have to be approved by a Battalion board prior to going to this flight board? My recruiter doesn't really know much so want to make sure I get everything said and done.

Yes the board must approve before you can go before the actual selection board. Which confuses me, because I think USAREC is the selection board but I read that ppl contact them and they are told that they don't handle civilian packets. My Batallion board date is in March and hopefully I'll be looked at in the March board. And as for the physical, be prepared to have your eyes examined very thoroughly. The eye techs looked at my eyes more than the actual doc did, the doc was like "read this chart" and he looked in my eyes for 10 seconds was like "ok you're eyes are fine." Also, I would urinate first thing in the morning so all the junk is out of your urinary tract. It's basically a MEPS physical without being in your underwear doing a duck walk and a more in depth eye exam. At the end, the flight surgeon will go over everything with you and he or she will examine you just like the MEPS doc does.

The battalion board is an interview where you will go before 3 officers, they try to get at least 1 aviator and 1 chief warrant. This was not the case in my battalion board as I was interviewed for 25 minutes by an O4 and two O3s. This board will give you a score out of a possible 75 points. (25 per interviewer) a 75/75 score is a perfect score and is the best recommendation. They are essentially interviewing you to decide if they would want to give you their recommendation to put into your packet. Civilians are the only WOFT applicants that have to do this. AD guys do not have this step to worry about. You will need to do your APFT before the battalion board so that they can have that info as well. You also have to have your flight physical completed and stamped by Ft. Rucker. This took me 3 weeks to get stamped. The flight physical itself isn't too bad. If the way my process went is any indication March will be pushing it for you but hopefully your recruiter can make it happen for you. good luck!

20 days until I can get my prk waiver. Hoping that Rucker stamps my phys with lightning speed.

Just a note on this I never was alerted when my physical actually got stamped. They send everything to Rucker via the A.E.R.O. system. Rucker prints it, stamps, and scans back into the system. Flight surgeon said the only time I would hear back from them is if something was wrong with it. I had to call to find out if it had been stamped

I just asked my flight surgeon if he could periodically check the status of the physical. Once it had a stamp he just emailed me a copy.

You can also call down there and ask it to be pushed. I may or may not have done this with fantastic results. PM me if you want the number I may or may not have used.

I think it also has to do with how "flooded" Rucker is with flight physicals. I had my physical stamped and returned within 2 weeks.

I would also advise you to see if you can do as many parts in one visit as possible. I was able to complete 2 parts of the physical in one day and that really saved me some time.

It's been a long and stressful ride to get to this point, mainly due to the medical stuff since I needed a waiver for an eye injury in 2006. I hope to get the package completed and submitted in the next two weeks.

4641 Combat Photographer

I can't resist, tell me more!

I think it is the best MOS in the Corps, but I may be a bit bias haha. I document training, missions and special events for the primary use of commanders and the evaluation of the mission, in a nut shell. However, the dream of flying has never left me and now that I have a chance I can't just pass it up. Amazing job though, seriously, I get to travel and take pictures of stuff. Sure, being in the field sucks some times but I've had some great opportunities.
