cptamerica2 Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 There weren't any Warrant Officers in my OCS class, so this may not be helpful. I dont know how OCS branching works now, because I've been told that a lot has changed since 2010. A couple of weeks prior to branching, people who wanted specific branches were allowed to submit 4187s requesting their branch of choice. Almost nobody got what they wanted, but you could justify your request i.e. A guy that got his degree in engineering could tell HRC that he would be an asset to the branch and they might guarantee him engineers. Only the guys who had valid flight physicals, LORs, and solid packets prior to arrival at OCS we're allowed to compete for Aviation. There is no time to build a packet while you're there. In my class, we had 6 applicants including myself. Of those only 3 got picked up. The rest of us had to complete our 36 month commitment before we could apply for branch transfer to AV, or in my case submit to become a Warrant. Quote

Thanks for your response, from what I've heard 3 people getting picked up to go aviation out of OCS is pretty rare, but you did go through during the height of the wars. I did find this little piece of gold but it dates to 2010 so I am not sure if it is still true, if it is I don't see any reason why I wouldn't fly as a WO a few years then commission up to officer. Thank you again for your response. http://www.armyocs.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=28552 Quote

NCOtoWO Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Hell of a motivating story for prospective candidates! That's a lesson on determination and how it's done when looking to separate yourself from your peers. I'm waiting on my ATRRS slot, hoping for the same class date...or as close as I can get. 1 Quote
