Optamix
The Army is canceling TA as of 1700 today.
Optamix
There goes my free grad degree. Hell, I still owe $33,000 for my undergrad.
electron_si
Man cancelling TA really sucks. I'm degree complete but I was thinking about using it when I go back to get my masters in a year or two.
I.am.Specialized
Is it permanently gone or just till next FY?
Optamix
From the way the sequester is structured I can't imagine it will come back. I'd have bet lots of money that Congress would have either pulled out a last minute deal or passed a bill pushing it back to give themselves more time. akscott60
Embry Riddle just sh*t their pants. Â Damn I f*cked up and didnt enroll earlier.
Rob1237051
We still have the gi bill guys...I was able to TA my way to an AS. Looks like the BS will be completed with the other huge education benefit we have. Also don't forget the Pell Grant.
d10
This doesn't really bother me actually. The people who were using TA to actually better themselves were a minority. It was overwhelming used by people looking for the easiest degree available just for promotion value while doing little to set anyone up for life on the outside. Not to mention the professional responsibilities which are pushed off on others because going to school somehow takes priority even over combat missions in Afghanistan. UnitedWeStand111
Yes, no TA is rough. No CLP either if my memory serves. Whats next, no Post 9/11 GI Bill or BAH?? Yikes
Lindsey
Well, in case people needed any further proof that Sequestration is no joke...  8 MAR 13 - Due to sequestration budget constraints HQDA G-1 DMPM directs that we cancel the SELECTION of 153As for the WO board scheduled for 11-15 March. As of now ALL packets that are in a board ready status will be boarded in May.
Optamix
Ouch....man Im glad I had my packet in for January.
SemperGumby
Welp, WOFT selection just got that much tougher. So glad I got in when I did.
Optamix
I wonder how many slots they will have open in May. Even if they keep the same number with twice as many applicants its going to be like a 20% acceptance rate.
Rob1237051
OK, so I guess I have the answer to my original question.
WaterRooster
I know that Rucker has told us that bubbles are back and to expect them throughout the training with the cuts that have come down
akscott60
Ugh. More time in Bco. That is a fate worse than death.

SemperGumby
B Co isn't too bad these days when you're in active class (since they separated WOs and LTs) but I guess it depends which team you're in. More time in details, I guess.
t.o.n.y
During an, unclassified, BOLC brief they said from BOLC to FS graduation costs an average of $3.4 million per student. Also was stated they're having to cut 500 slots this year. Â I'm just glad to finally be starting aeromed next week. Was selected Nov 2011, shipped out last May. Has taken a while
I.am.Specialized
From my understanding those slots are lost from FY14
d10
Maybe instead of cutting slots the Army could figure out how to bring the cost down. You could buy 200 hours in an MI-26 for less than that. The flight instruction at Rucker shouldn't cost more than a few hundred thousand. Obviously there is more between WOCS and graduation than flying but how you get another 3 million, I have no idea.

ftxag76
I do not think it is the flight training itself that costs so much, but it is the support elements associated with each individual. Such as Insurance, Family assistance, housing, and of course flight Associated costs.
d10
Maintenance and fuel costs were accounted for in my flight training cost estimate. Staff salaries shouldn't be that much considering they're averaged out per student. If they had a 1:1 student to faculty ratio that only accounts for one average salary per student, and obviously there are way more students than staff so it's not even that much. There's just no way you're getting $3M worth of training out of flight school. If that's an accurate number it's a colossal waste.
t.o.n.y
That is for BOLC, SERE, and all flight related training. Salaries, benefits, facilities, insurance, equipment, etc, etc, etc Edited March 17, 2013 by t.o.n.y
