Yeah,,,,went direct to 1LT. Got tired of working for some dumb RLO, so I figured I would be that guy. ....I wish I had never done that as they suck your brains out when you pin on the new rank AND you don't get to fly as much. Everyone makes a mistake now and then I guess! Except for the fact that being an RLO made it easy for me to get the FW transition, I should have just stayed a Warrant....would have spent a LOT less time flying a desk and had more fun. May even had stayed past 20 years if I had stayed a Warrant and not gone RLO. As an RLO, I had had all the fun I could stand by the time I hit 20 and just got out as fast as I could.

Do you know if that's something that still happens? I figured nowadays they'd definitely push you through OCS as opposed to giving you a direct commission.

I don't have a clue if they still do that. I know that the process DOES come and go from time to time, though. As a Captain, I had a CW3 working for me that I knew when he was a Major and I was a W2 where he had gone back to being a Warrant. I suppose this all depends upon "the needs of the Army", huh?

Truer words have never been spoken haha. One of my LoR is actually from a Marine Major who transferred to the Army Reserves as a WO. I guess it can go both ways.

Yeah...one of the guys that graduated right behind me in WOFT transferred to the Air Force and then had to go through Air Force Flight School...he wore his Army Aviator Wings the whole time....that must have been a chuckle. He was later a captain for US AIR and got recalled back into the service to go play in the sandbox. He recently retired from the Air force as a full bull Colonel and went back to flying for US Air (now American, I guess). I knew another Army aviator (an 0-2 at the time, IRRC) that transferred to the Coast Guard so he could fly their Falcon 20s...

Direct commission isn't an option for combat arms folks on AD. Med branch still does it though.

You never know how you might end up in the Army. I left the AD Navy after flying Seahawks as an O-4. Seven years ago, after taking nine years off, I joined the FL ARNG to fly Blackhawks as a CW2.. We have several Os that reverted to warrant in our unit. We had only one warrant that went to officer.

That's how the Army works...has ALWAYS worked that way....."some dude" working at a desk pushing papers around ALWAYS holds the keys to YOUR future. Get used to it and learn how the "system" works and how to work the system or get left behind!

Ok don I understand that but still dont know what that has to do with the guy and the paper

I hope Shindig is an actually person. I'd be bummed if he was a troll.

I want to buy the kid a beer and trade war stories.

You need to watch the news man. Then you may understand (maybe). Steve Harvey and the Miss Universe Pageant... Look it up and THEN you will understand "the guy and the paper."
